Joshua 3:5 — Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.”
This is easily the most rockin’ book of the Bible yet… It begins with the people “consecrating” themselves for “tomorrow.” Once tomorrow gets here, God breaks out with power. If I had to describe this book in a simple phrase, I would say, “God rocks!”
Check out a couple of my favorite events so far…
Joshua 6:21, 7:1,4,6,9-11,19-20,25-26 — They devoted [Jericho] to the Lord… But the Israelites acted unfaithfully in regard to the devoted things; Achan…took some of them. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel. About three thousand men went up [to take Ai] but they were routed by the men of Ai. Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, and said, “What then will you do for your own great name?” The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant and have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied.” Then Joshua said to Achan, “Tell me what you have done.” Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel.” Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned [his family], they burned them up. Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day.
God WILL be honored. God loves but God judges too. Achan chose…poorly. After reading this, I definitely want to be “for” God and not “against” Him.
Joshua 10:9-14 — After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them but surprise. The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great victory at Gibeon. As they fled before Israel, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, and more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites. The sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
With God on your side, you can do ANYTHING.
