Late in the summer of 2000, I was sitting on a rooftop looking out over the night lights of Islamabad, Pakistan and for the first time ever, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was calling me into ministry. I had already been in Bible College for 3 years, so I was obviously leaning toward ministry, but I had never had that ‘light bulb moment’ until that night. I still wasn’t sure to exactly what or precisely where I was being called, but the Call was undeniable.
In that moment, I had to make a choice to walk away and live a faithful, ordinary life as a Christian or to answer His Call to a tough, rewarding, frustrating, joy-filled, extra-ordinary life.
I answered the Call and it’s taken me from Bible College to Missouri to Indiana and, now, to Ohio. The journey over the past 10 years has been nothing like I expected, but I can’t imagine life any other way.
Have you heard God’s Call on your life? Whether you’re a young, idealistic 20 year old like I was, a 30 year old trying desperately to provide for your family, a comfortable retiree, or anyone in between, we all have 1 thing in common… God has placed a Call on your life. Maybe you’ve heard it and maybe you haven’t. Maybe you’ve walked away from it and maybe you’re terrified to answer it.
As many great leaders as there are that have jumped at God’s Call, there are countless more that go to bed every night wondering what might be and feeling sick with a sense of lost opportunity.
Don’t slip through the cracks any longer. God has gifted YOU to lead [someone] right now. He has given YOU the tools you need to accomplish your task. YOU add value to the team and YOU make the Church a better place.
Tonight, ask God to remind you of His Call. Tomorrow, answer it with boldness.
