Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.
God rescued all of His people from slavery but He didn’t let them all into the Promised Land.
In fact, God saves people from pain, trouble and consequences all the time but that doesn’t mean they get into Heaven.
Churches are full of people who have been rescued by God… They survived a car crash. Their cancer went into remission. Their kid made it through rehab. They escaped financial ruin.
God rescues them and they often respond by searching out and joining a church. They faithfully join in the singing and the listening and the potlucking with everything they’ve got. And that would all be great if that’s all that they were rescued for.
But God doesn’t rescue people from their pain and problems just so they’ll join something. God rescues His creation to reveal His love and mercy and power. God rescues His people so that they’ll believe He has the power to rescue them no matter what comes their way. God rescues His children so that they’ll boldly follow Him into any and every challenge.
It’s not enough to join the crowd of God’s people as they journey through this life. You’ve been called to believe.
