Throughout this week, I’ll be sharing simple verses that have rocked my perspective on life and faith, with just a short note. My hope is that God will move in a similar way in your heart…
“If we are ‘out of our mind,’ as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.” -2 Corinthians 5:13-14
“Grace will take you places guilt and duty never will.” -Jeff Walling
My strength will only take me so far. My self-discipline will only take me so far. My conscience will only take me so far. Those are all good kick-starts but none of them are good finishers.
I recently heard that of all the men who answer the call to be “ministers,” 90% of them don’t retire from ministry. They fail morally or burn out or lose track of their conviction. The specifics vary, but the result is 90% of ministers don’t finish the race.
Because, even if they won’t admit it, they’re trying to atone for perceived guilt or they’re trying to earn “God points” or they’re trying to prove something to themselves (or to God).
And the truth is, grace will take you to the highest mountain top, see you through the deepest valley and bring you back to the mountain. Grace will never fail you but you will never measure up to Jesus. “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
Are you living in a system of guilt and duty or in a system of grace and freedom? Figure it out… Because it determines everything about your future.
