We’re living in a messed up world and it’s as scary a time as we’ve ever seen. Unemployment rates are up, gas prices are sky high and salaries are being cut. Gay marriage, abortion and race issues have taken center stage across our nation. Drugs, alcohol and porn are threatening to destroy a generation.
In the midst of it all, people are grabbing for hope wherever they can find it. We’re looking all around and we’re quick to use the technology of our time to effectively shout our solution from a virtual bullhorn.
As we’re navigating a new age of culture, opinion and politics, we’d be well served to remember a few simple facts…
- Barack Obama will not fix your problem. Mitt Romney will not fix your problem. But Jesus can.
- Money will not fix your problem. A new job will not fix your problem. But Jesus can.
- An abortion will not fix your problem. Gay marriage will not fix your problem. But Jesus can.
There is only ONE solution to the puzzle that is our culture and it’s not found in the Republican or Democratic platform. It’s not found in a jobs report or campaign ad. The solution to our culture’s problems is found in the pages of the Bible.
I will vote but I will not become a mouthpiece for a political solution to a spiritual problem. And I would say to anyone listening that the only way to effectively change our culture is to say, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up agains the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Nothing will change until the thoughts of our culture are taken captive and surrendered to the Will of the Father.
So, don’t waste your time arguing politics. Redeem your time. Invest in disciples. Take thoughts captive. Make a change that will actually last.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. -2 Corinthians 10:3-5
