This is a guest post by Michele Schmidt, a student in the Georgetown Church of Christ youth group. She’s becoming a great young leader and has some very good things to say!
Ok, I’m going to start by saying I am not proud of the story I’m about to tell. In fact it’s quite embracing in my opinion. Yesterday I was in the basement doing laundry and when I finished I went to turn off the light and climb up the stairs. However, before I could this monstrous, vicious, black spider appeared two millimeters from my small toe. At this point I screamed like a stereotypical teenage girl. So after I screamed my boyfriend ran down the stairs, took care of the spider and then gave me that “are you serious?” look.
Okay, so if you know me I am not one to scream at bugs. However I realized something. When I’m prepared things don’t scare me, however when your not prepared or unguarded then that is when things get to you. Satan knows when you’re at your end, when your unguarded and that’s when he strikes, when his attack is the most fierce. He takes you when everything is running smoothly and throws a rock at your feet trying to cause you to fall.
Stay guarded, keep your heart focused on Christ. He will not fail you, in fact He will be the one to protect you. Just like Peter when he saw Jesus on the water.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:27-31 NIV)
See when we focus on Christ and keep with Him, we won’t stumble, but the moment we doubt, look away, or become unfocused, that’s when we drown, that’s when Satan throws stumbling block at us. So in the end spout hearts, our minds, souls and everything should be centered in Him.
